Why wouldn’t you be able to set what frame shows up in the thumbnail? For this particular video, Powerpoint will play it, but it displays a super blurry, ugly question mark thing as the thumbnail. That’s not going to cut it for a big presentation. I played the video in full screen, took a snapshot of it and set it as the background for the thumbnail but the ugly image still shows up on top of it. FML.
